STEM commercialisation, technology transfer and IP strategy
Andy supports researchers and innovators to move ideas into the market. During his years at Curtin University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, Andy managed and protected intellectual property, progressing inventions through disclosure, evaluation and commercial pathways, including licensing and assignment.
As Business Development Manager – Commercialisation (Trailblazer), he mentored research entrepreneurs and start-ups on early business planning and commercial readiness, and helped steer Curtin’s Trailblazer Universities Program in Resources Technology and Critical Minerals—supporting translation of university research into industry-backed opportunities.
Industry engagement, market-facing research partnerships and business cases
Andy builds high-value collaborations between research and industry, grounded in a deep, practical understanding of mining operations and the resources value chain. Trained as a mining engineer, he spent six years in site-based engineering roles with global mining companies including Newmont Mining in Nevada and OceanaGold in New Zealand. In these positions he worked across numerous areas, giving him a clear view of what drives adoption at mine sites—safety, productivity, reliability, cost and regulatory fit—and where innovations most often fail to translate.
For over five years, Andy worked as the “bridge” between universities and mining industry, shaping industry-driven research projects in mining, metallurgy, energy and critical minerals. He is skilled at translating complex research into commercial language for external audiences, aligning partner needs with university strengths, and framing value propositions and business cases that stand up to real industry decision-making.
Strategic program delivery, grants and growth leadership
Andy brings strong program and organisational leadership. He has led complex, multi-stakeholder programs, built cross-disciplinary teams, and delivered high-quality technical writing and editing for grants, reporting and strategic plans. His earlier CEO roles add a practical lens on governance, sustainability, change management and scaling impact—useful for guiding clients through transformation from concept to durable, real-world outcomes.
