Involves NSW Government agencies posing challenges to address current gaps in responding to, managing and recovering from natural hazards. There is also a ‘big ideas’ stream to help identify future technology capabilities. The potential partner agencies include NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), State Emergency Services (SES), NSW Fire and Rescue, NSW Forestry Corp, Reconstruction Authority, NSW Telco Authority, Transport for NSW, Department of Planning and Environment, and the Department of Customer Service.
The three challenges in this round of BRII focus on renewables and low emissions practices. The challenges are: increasing energy efficiency of commercial fishing operations; powering safe drinking water for Australian First Nations remote communities; alternative packaging for premium Australian wine.
Over three months startups will receive access to tools, resources and expert support to help create and launch AI-powered solutions that bring economic and social benefits to Australia. Winners receive $300K worth of R&D support with two runners up receiving $100K each.
The Future Drought Fund has invested $10 million in a two-year pilot initiative aimed at enhancing the commercial availability of drought resilience products and services for Australian food and fibre producers. Opens March 2024.
