Russell Nicholls

Commercialisation Specialist

Russell is an intellectual property (IP) and commercialisation expert with extensive experience in evaluating opportunities and translating research outcomes into new products and services.

He has 25 years’ experience in higher education and companies from global multinationals to start-ups. Russell uses his skills in IP strategy, innovation management, partnering, grant funding and investment to assist companies during the early stages of development. His specialist knowledge includes the biopharmaceutical, medical technology, agriculture and food sectors.

Russell was most recently Associate Director, Commercialisation at The University of Western Australia where he led the technology transfer team and managed the portfolio of more than 25 spinout companies. Previously he was Director of Knowledge Commercialisation Australasia and Deputy Director, Commercialisation at Curtin University.

Before moving to Australia in 2009 he worked in university technology transfer and innovation management in the pharmaceutical industry in the UK.

Russell is a Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). He has a Graduate Certificate in IP Law, MSc in Management of IP from Queen Mary College, London and a BSc (Honours) in Applied Neuroscience from University of Manchester.
