Entrepreneur Natalie Chapman Finalist in Telstra Business Women’s Awards

gemaker is proud to announce that Managing Director Natalie Chapman is a NSW finalist in the Entrepreneur category of the 2017 Telstra Business Women’s Awards.

In its twenty-third year, the Telstra Business Women’s Awards program is Australia’s longest running and most esteemed women’s awards program. Award winners and finalists join a vibrant Alumni community of like-minded women helping to build stronger, more productive and more relevant business communities in Australia and across Asia.

‘The Entrepreneur Award is especially meaningful to the gemaker team as we are committed to promoting the participation and leadership of women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and helping STEM entrepreneurs to bring new products and services to market,’ said Mrs Chapman.

Natalie Chapman co-founded gemaker in 2011, to help inspire STEM students, enable research-industry engagement and build innovative industries. She said that gemaker’s goal is to grow the next generation of STEM knowledge-based industries in Australia.

‘We have some of the best researchers in the world; let’s grow more of the best companies in the world.

‘It takes many years and considerable effort to overcome the challenges of developing a viable business from STEM-based research in Australia,’ Mrs Chapman said.

‘gemaker’s approach is to improve the innovation ecosystem as a whole, not attempt to force commercial outcomes from a flawed system.

‘All parts of a healthy ecosystem rely on and support each other. You don’t just need soil, or rain or sunshine to grow a plant; you need all of them.’

‘Our future relies on working together to get more students interested in and studying STEM, innovation and entrepreneurship, to increase our knowledge-based workforce.

‘We also need to help researchers to engage with industry earlier and better, to understand and solve real-world problems, and so achieve greater translation of research out of the lab and into the marketplace.

‘Start-ups need plenty of commercialisation advice and marketing support to attract investors and customers and grow new Australian industries.’

gemaker helps innovative businesses to thrive by providing training in research-industry engagement, commercialisation advice, market research, intellectual property, marketing/communications, and PR support.

Each month, we provide valuable information on innovation, commercialisation, funding and business growth for researchers, inventors, startups and expanding businesses.
