Case study: Swinburne University of Technology

Strategic planning

Swinburne University of Technology (SUT) engaged gemaker to develop a two-year strategic plan for research and development activities, and to conduct due diligence on SUT’s proposed acquisition and commercial development of another research agency. gemaker also wrote a tender application for SUT’s School of Design.

Based on interviews with SUT staff and stakeholders and other research, the strategic plan designated outcomes and outputs for 2013-15 and the actions necessary to deliver them. It included recommendations on the actions needed to deliver the outputs and outcomes designated in SUT’s overarching strategic plan to 2020. Regarding the proposed acquisition and commercial development, gemaker conducted market, competitor and financial analysis to produce a comprehensive report including recommendations under several possible scenarios.

Former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (R&D) at SUT George Collins said, “The solutions gemaker have offered Swinburne match the way we work. They have approached each Swinburne assignment with enthusiasm and commitment. This approach has resulted in instant engagement with the internal project teams with which they have worked. It is their flexible approach and ability to focus on our objectives that have secured repeat business from Swinburne. They respond quickly when they are needed and suit our style and values.”
